Day: 25 I am not afraid
I am not afraid. Say it again; I am not afraid. Say it one more time; I am not afraid. What did you say?
You may be afraid now but after you finish reading this I know your outlook will change.
Being afraid, scared, unsure, or careful (however you want to describe that feeling) is a hinderance. It stops you dead in your tracks. It is like a brick wall; you can’t go through it, you can’t go around it, and you can’t go over it; but with a change in your thinking you can get past it. Often times you will make a decision based off the feeling of being afraid and when your fear is the deciding factor you will make the wrong decision.
My fear hindered me. I would go through all the negative scenarios and at the end I would be terrified and I wouldn’t move: “What if I failed? I can’t do it because I won’t have a sitter. I am too busy right now. I have to speak in front of people, oh no! They aren’t going to like me. I can’t do that, I have never done it before.” After all these thoughts ran through my head I would come to the conclusion that it just wasn’t for me. There is no telling how many blessings I passed up because I let my fear get the best of me. I let my fear decide for me.
Today I go at things with a different mindset, I am more confident in myself and I have more confidence in God. Yes, I still feel fear but instead of looking at it negatively I look at positively: So, what if I fail, fall down 9 times get up 10. I’ll find a way to get this done. I will make time. Let me practice just what I need to say so I am not so nervous. I don’t care if they like me, God likes me. I can do it and I will do it. Let me apply again, eventually something will come through.” When I think like this I am able to move in the right direction, I am not stuck behind that brick wall any longer.
It’s okay to feel afraid, it is okay to doubt, but you must speak to these feelings so that they don’t stop you on your journey. I am not afraid, I can do this, if I fail I’ll just try again. I am not afraid, this is what I want to do, this is what I need to do. I am not afraid, God is with me. When you start speaking these types of affirmations over your life, your circumstances, and your situations you will feel that fear start to subside.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9-
