Day 17: I Am Who I Am.
Being who you were created to be is so important. As a matter of fact, I believe it is the most important characteristic of all. Being you is what makes you different; there is power in being you.
Yesterday as I was sitting in the chapel at work and a verse came to me, Exodus 3:14 states “I AM WHO I AM.” Look at that, in some versions it is all capitalized just like this and some read “I Am Who I Am.” But in every version, there is a period after the last “Am”. There is a symbolism in the capitalization, capitalizing makes it important, it makes it stand out. The period symbolizes an end that means nothing follows. I AM WHO I AM. I Am Who I Am. I believe God was saying this is all they need to know, what I am doing or about to do will explain the rest.
The whole verse reads; God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'” (Exodus 3:14 NIV)
This shows that God knew how much power he had, He knew exactly what he was capable of, He was sure of Himself. I am not saying we are as powerful as God or that we can do the things that God has done, but what I am saying is by declaring I Am Who I Am you draw out the power that God has given you.
There is no one on this earth that is like you, there is no one with your talent, and there is no one who can offer the things that you have to offer to this world. This doesn’t mean you are the most talented or that you better than anyone else; it simply means that you are unique.
Often times I feel we get discouraged because we try to compare ourselves to others, we want to do what they are doing and we want to do it just how they are doing it. This is not what you were created for. You were created to be you and they were created to be them.
It is okay to look at someone and learn from them but it is not okay to look at someone and try to mimic everything they do, this takes your uniqueness away. This takes your I AM away. Today look at yourself, study yourself and your talents, and discover who you are. Discover what sets you apart from those around you. Today pray to God, talk to Him, if you haven’t yet discovered what your purpose is ask Him to reveal it. You may already be living in your purpose but you don’t realize it because you are trying to copy someone else.
Lastly, stop letting people tell you who you are or what you are supposed to be doing, they don’t have that kind of power. If I would have listened to what people told me I was going to be or what I was going to do I wouldn’t be who I am today. Today discover your I Am and start living in it. When you wake up in the morning wake up with a purpose. Before you walk out the house remind yourself of who you are and live the life God created just for you. Tell yourself I AM WHO I AM.
