Let It Go

Often times we go to sleep and we wake up feeling the same way we felt when we laid down. This is because whatever we were feeling or whatever made us feel the way we felt was not properly dealt with. Waking up angry, worried, or sad is not a good thing, it has the potential to make your day very long and unfulfilling. Carrying around these types of emotions take a lot out of you and if not dealt with properly, these emotions will follow you from day to day.

I bet you’re asking “Well how do I deal with these feelings?” “I don’t want to feel like this, I just can’t help it.” The most important step to getting over these feelings is to find out why you feel the way you feel; this will help you better understand how to overcome them. If a person made you feel a certain way, if you are able, address this matter with the person; this makes them aware of your feelings towards their actions. If this person refuses to change their actions, then you may need to change your surroundings. If you are having issues with work, you don’t have the same excitement or passion for the job, then find ways to bring back that excitement. For me taking on new projects or learning a different task always help. Also, not everything that makes us feel these negative emotions can be fixed, let’s use my day as an example.

On Saturday I woke up early to run an errand, I had to go to the post office. After leaving the post office I decided to stop a Chick-Fil-A to get breakfast. While waiting to turn on the street to get to the restaurant a car pulled out and blocked the whole intersection, I was starting to feel angry because they were completely in the wrong, I shook it off. I get into the parking lot and I am following the signs to get into Line 2, Line 1 was long. Approaching Line 2 I get confused cause one car looks like they are in Line 1 but they are taking up space in Line 2, I wait a few seconds for them to decide and when they don’t move toward Line 2 I inch forward, now they decide they want to move. Not only did they move but the driver stared me down, now I am livid! I bang my steering wheel and throw my hands up and let him know he can get it, I ain’t scared! So, I am staring at him and he is staring at me through his rearview mirror. When he gets his food, my eyes follow his car and I am thinking I should follow him and give him a piece of my mind. I was really angry, now I could have let these feeling of anger and disrespect ruin my whole day but I chose to let it go (and enjoy my Chicken Minis), I couldn’t do anything about him or the driver before him.
Today, take account of how you feel throughout the day and do your best to recognize those things that trigger these negative feelings, before you let them take complete control do your best to deal with them accordingly. When you retire to your bedroom let the feelings of today go, whether it be through prayer, mediation, or dance. LET IT GO!
